Problem Reason Solution

Problem

When you run PowerPoint after installing BrightSlide, you see a message like this:

Reason

BrightSlide uses an external script file to facilitate some of its features. If it isn't installed in the right folder, BrightSlide won't work properly. Note that BrightSlide builds the path to this folder using a function which was updated in version 1.0.6.6 on 1st September 2023. This fixes and issue where the user's home folder is not the same as their username.

Solution

First things first, make sure you have installed the latest version from the product page.

Next, check to see if the BrightSlide.scpt file exists in this folder:

~/Library/Application Scripts/com.microsoft.Powerpoint/

Not that “~” is a shortcut to the user's home folder. The above folder is equivalent to:

/Users/[username]/Library/Application Scripts/com.microsoft.Powerpoint/

Because BrightSlide is installed in the user's profile, it must not be installed via an administrator's profile.

If the script file is in the correct user library folder, check that the [username] doesn't include any space characters.

Finally, check the the user name matches the user's home folder name.
