Problem

You are using BrightSlide on Windows and at random intervals you see this error:

It can happen when you interact with many of the BrightSlide features.

Cause

This is due to a Microsoft Office VBA compiler issue and it appears to happen with the 64-bit version of PowerPoint for version 7.1.11.31 of the core VBA engine (VBE7.DLL). It also appears to be linked to the available system resources so closing unneeded apps may or may not help. You can upgrade to the lates version of M365 apps or use the 32-bit version of Office (note that you cannot install both versions on a single PC). If this is causing you serious productivity issues, you can temporarily disable BrightSlide for Windows as instructed in this article.

Side effect

Note that when this error is dismissed, it leaves BrightSlide in an unknown state and you may find that some features do not behave as they should. To resolve this, restart PowerPoint to force BrightSlide to reload in a known and stable state.

Solution

As a result of BrightCarbon working closely with Microsoft, a fix was implemented and released to production starting January 2024 as follows:

VBE7.DLL version 7.1.11.33 (the old version with the 35010 error is 7.1.11.31)

M365 apps release Version 2402 (Build 17303.15020) and later

UPDATE 25th January 2024: This fix has been withdrawn from production. We are awaiting further news.

UPDATE 08th February 2024: A second fix has been released to production in version 2401 build 173828.20044

Microsoft release schedule

It will depend on which channel you are on as to when you will get the fixed version of the VBE7.DLL as follows:

You can see the channel by clicking File / Account:

Beta Channel - from 11th January 2024 onwards

Current Channel - from February 2024 onwards
